Outside my window… Sun! Finally, sun! We’ve had a couple days of it, but today is the first really hot day and though the sudden change is a bit of a shock to the system, I’m enjoying that sunshine. The windows are open, the chicks were let out of the coop, and Cora is basking around happily. I’m sitting on the couch while I blog, looking out my window, and watching 4 horses across the street take a little gallop across their field. Right now. This neighbourhood is beautiful.

I am thankful… for a good night’s sleep last night. It’s been a while.

In the kitchen… I’ve made fresh salsa for tonight, and we’re just eating things like bread and cheese for small meals. There’s no need to turn on the oven or stand over the hot stove in weather like this. I’m planning ceviche acalpulco for dinner tomorrow night, maybe a little fresh avocado with that. I’m happy with warm-weather food.

I am wearing… just casual junky cool clothes for working in the house today, but I’ll be chancing into my favourite $20 summer dress for a family gathering tonight. And on a fun note, I’ve just painted my nails with nail polish from Del Sol. I picked up a bottle on my cruise last year (they have Del Sol shops in nearly every port) – it changes colour in the sun! So much fun. Hey mom… will you grab me a bottle or two when you travel this summer?

I am creating… crocheted can cozies. I HATE holding a cold can that gets everything wet. These were a cute little pattern that I found, but I won’t say too much more because I’ll want to share a surprise photo when they’re done.

I am going… to mom’s for a small family BBQ tonight.

I am wondering… where my cross-stitch stuff is. I need a needle to sew a button onto a crochet project, and beyond that, I have a stitch project that really needs to get done!

I am reading… cookbooks. I’ve just found and unpacked mine. They’re lined up on the sideboard in the kitchen which looks fantastic, so I’ve been leafing through them for new ideas.

I am hoping… that training Cora to stay in the yard may actually work. So far we’ve attempted to just KEEP her in the yard, but now I’m actually attempting to TRAIN her to stay. This morning went well, but it will take a lot of concentrated effort for a while.

I am looking forward to… a couple walks on the dike with my pup this week. The weather will be fine for it, and we all enjoy getting out there where she can run around off-leash.

Around the house…  I’m seeing some progress! It’s always a work-in-progress around here, but it’s nice when the scale to tips to “somewhat better than it was.” I’ve been on a renewed effort to unpack boxes that have sat in the basement all year.

The Mr. is… doing a great job cleaning out the basement. He’s wanting to start building a front gate this week, which I’m very much looking forward to.

One of my favorite things…  The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Have you seen this yet? I went with my parents last week and just loved it. I’m hoping that it comes to our cheapie theatre here soon so that I can take the Mr., too. I think he’d definitely enjoy it. It was visually stunning, with great weaving story lines – if you haven’t seen it, go.

A few plans for the rest of the week: Honestly, I have no idea yet. I’d like to meet a friend for a stroll, finish some crochet projects, and make progress on that good ol’ household binder that I’ve been thinking about since May.

A peek into my day: Having lived in places with limited laundry facilities, I won’t lie – I love my dryer. But I also love the opportunity to hang laundry out on the line. It’s so great to have the best of both worlds, here!

Sunday’s Daybook, 17Jun2012

A simple post for Sunday.

Outside my window… I think it’s going to keep raining. We had some sunshine this week, but not much, and it poured yesterday. I see no end to this.

I am thankful… that my husband will take care of gross bloody tasks. We have an injured chicken today (see more below), and I’m incredibly glad I don’t have to do the first aid!

In the kitchen… fresh, gluten free muffins. I didn’t have high hopes for them, but they turned out really great! I used a mix by Glutino and added raisins, almonds, and cinnamon.

I am wearing… Jeans and a tank. I’m wishing summer in?

I am creating… a chicken first-aid kit. We need to have some things on hand, clearly.

I am reading… a bunch of crochet books from the library.

I am hoping… that Pearl (the hen) is going to be okay. She was pretty badly pecked this morning. She is recuperating in the basement for now. I’m not quite sure what to do about this, going forward.

I am looking forward to… burgers and a movie tonight. 🙂

I am learning… to crochet! I’ll post some pictures soon. I’m really enjoying the small quick projects – so satisfying!

Around the house… we’re collecting up stuff for a garage sale table next week, and emptying old boxes (yes, from the move!) as we go.

The Mr. is… cleaning the BBQ as we speak. I love grilling season.

One of my favorite things… this week, iced ginger-peach tea. Delicious!

A peek into my day…

It’s Father’s Day, of course! We went with Dad to see Blazing Saddles at the movie theatre today, which was fun (and kind of shocking – I’d never seen it before!). This isn’t a picture of TODAY of course, but it is my favourite of me and my Dad from my wedding. I think my aunt caught this one. 🙂

Sunday, May 6, 2012

I know it’s not best form to do 2 posts like this in a row, a week apart. I had grand plans for posts this week but they fell by the wayside. This week will be better… but it’s no excuse not to keep this going, because I like it!

Outside my window… I spotted blossoms on the apple tree today.

I am thinking… about how to get back into a household routine. I was well-established in my cleaning routine once upon a time, but it’s fallen by the wayside.

I am thankful… for the sunshine today. It’s warm enough but breezy – just perfect in my opinion.

In the kitchen… our oven is waiting for a repair. But I fired up the BBQ today, and that’s exciting! I thought I would be a year-round BBQ cook, but I’m really not. We had my favourite burgers which are seasoned with Montreal Steak Spice.

I am wearing… workout-style capris & a tee shirt. Casual clothes for a bit of housecleaning that needs to be finished.

I am creating… a blog schedule. I want to be more regular with my posts.

I am going… to bed early tonight. I want to get a good start to the week.

I am wondering… if I can find some chicken wire on Freecycle. We need to bolster our fence against Cora the wondrous escaping dog.

I am reading… a Weight Watchers magazine, looking for healthy inspiration for the week.

I am hoping… that our little chick is a hen. Really, really hoping! It may be that I’m getting a little attached to the wee thing – I want to keep her!

I am looking forward to… Bootcamp tomorrow. No, really. I was only available to go twice last week, but I’m looking forward to continuing to build healthy habits (and it’s actually sort of fun. I even went in the rain).

I am learning… That exercise can inspire me to eat more healthfully, and move a little more throughout my day. One good thing leads to another. It seems so obvious, but I’m really just starting to “get it.”

Around the house… I got a new vacuum. This is oddly exciting. It’s a Shark Navigator Liftaway Pro, and I think it’s swell. The dog disagrees.

The Mr. is… cooking this week! He’s doing all the meal planning and dinners all week long. Nice guy, eh?

One of my favorite things… I bought this CD, Every Mother Counts, from Starbucks. I think it’s a great album, and $8 from each purchase will be donated to CARE for maternal health programs in coffee-growing countries. Pretty cool. They’re available through May 9th, so grab one while you can.

A few plans for the rest of the week: A Dr. appointment, a visit, and lots of workouts. I will go to bootcamp as often as possible and walk on the other days. It’s time to get healthy again.

A peek into my day… I love wall decals as an inexpensive way to decorate. Here’s a new one I picked up on clearance ($3!) at a local candle store (which as you know, we now frequent):

Outside my window… little lambs! This is the first time I’ve seen them outside of the barn.

I am thinking… of my to-dos for the week. It’s going to be busy.

I am thankful… for family. For everybody who came out for my grandmother’s funeral, got the work done, made it beautiful, and created time for each other.

In the kitchen… I’m planning to have a salad every day this week. With lunch or dinner, it doesn’t matter, but I need to get some more veggies in me.

I am wearing… old jeans, new tee.

I am creating… new laundry systems.

I am going… nowhere tonight! The weekend is over and errands are done.

I am wondering… what I’ve gotten myself into, signing up for bootcamp! I start tomorrow – yikes.

I am reading… Reminiscences, Remedies & Recipes which was written by Langley senior citizens and published as a fundraiser for Langley Meals on Wheels. I’m loving it so far and there are lots of recipes I’m looking forward to trying.

I am hoping… to get some garden things planted in the next couple of days.

I am looking forward to… May! It’s time for some sunshine around here.

I am learning… how to put together product ads and mailings for work. I enjoy it, but there’s lots to play around with and figure out still.

Around the house… I’m making slow progress on decluttering and giving things away. It feels liberating.

I am pondering… How to organize new volunteers for church school next year, and who else to ask for help!

The Mr. is… awesome. He got me through a difficult week and rocked the child care (we were looking after 3 little kids… 2 dogs… 2 guinea pigs… 2 households… many chickens).

A favorite quote for today… I’ve been listening to a Paul McCartney CD all weekend. I can not stop singing “Accentuate the positive. Eliminate the negative. Latch on to the affirmative, and don’t mess with Mr. In-Between.”

One of my favorite things… A new(ish) tea I found by Tetley called Perk. That’s right, it’s got extra caffeine. I am not a coffee fan, but I’m appreciating the extra boost of Perk these days.

A few plans for the rest of the week: A Dr. appointment, a visit, and lots of workouts. I will go to bootcamp as often as possible and walk on the other days. It’s time to get healthy again.

A peek into my day…

I found this picture and just couldn’t resist:
